CATL Tianheng Energy Storage System: 6.25MWh! 5 Years Zero Attenuation

April 9th 2024, CATL released the world’s first energy storage system with zero attenuation for 5 years and can be mass-produced on a large scale – Tianheng.

CATL Tianheng Energy Storage System (hereinafter referred to as the Tianheng Energy Storage System) integrates “5 years zero attenuation, 6.25 megawatt-hour level, multidimensional true safety” in one, accelerating the scale application and high-quality development of new energy storage.

5 Years Zero Attenuation System, the World’s First Large-Scale Mass Production Capable

A battery system with zero attenuation of capacity over 5 years is a milestone for long-life lithium batteries. However, for energy storage power stations that aim to meet the expectations of new power systems, maintaining constant power is the ideal state.

Tianheng Energy Storage System adopts bionic SEI and self-assembling electrolyte technology to clear obstacles for lithium-ion, achieving zero attenuation in power and capacity for 5 years, with auxiliary power consumption controlled throughout the entire lifecycle and not increasing, truly achieving an “ageless” state from the inside out.

CATL, with leading R&D technology and extreme manufacturing capability, successfully solved the problem of highly active lithium metal in “zero attenuation” batteries, effectively curbing the thermal runaway phenomenon caused by oxidation reactions, and achieved large-scale mass production of 5 years zero attenuation systems.

20-Foot Container, 6.25 Megawatt-Hour, High Energy Density in a Small Space

Tianheng Energy Storage System achieves a high energy of 6.25 megawatt-hours in a standard 20-foot container, increasing the energy density per unit area by 30%, and reducing the site area by 20%, upgrading the energy density in every inch and creating higher benefits.

Strong Performance, Starting from the “Core”

Tianheng Energy Storage System is equipped with the energy storage-specific long-life zero attenuation core L-series products, achieving an ultra-high energy density of 430Wh/L for lithium iron phosphate energy storage batteries.

Energy Storage-Specific Quality Management System for Ultimate Safety

To achieve the ultimate safety of energy storage, CATL has established an energy storage-specific quality management system based on complete cycles of technology development, testing, operation monitoring, and safety failure analysis.

This system sets different safety goals based on application scenarios and then develops corresponding safety technologies according to these goals.

To ensure the effectiveness of the technology, CATL has built a safety verification platform to simulate the safety verification of energy storage systems in different power grid scenarios and operating environments.

After the project is put into operation, CATL continuously monitors the operating status through AI risk monitoring and intelligent early warning, uses the PSA model to quantify the failure probability of energy storage products throughout the entire lifecycle, thereby verifying the safety design goals and continuously updating them.

Single-cell failure rate of the Tianheng Energy Storage System reaches the industry-leading PPB level, extending to the entire lifecycle and chain of operations, which can effectively reduce operating costs and significantly improve the full lifecycle IRR.
